Mini gallery: a fond look back at Port Vale’s old Hamil Road scoreboard
Port Vale will unveil a new big screen at the Vale Park stadium during the 2023-24 season. In this feature, we take a brief look back at the scoreboard it replaced.
A brief history…
The first electronic scoreboard was installed at Vale Park in 1988. Our photo below shows it in early action including showing the score from a friendly against Stoke City. That board was situated at the back of the empty Hamil Road terracing. When the stand was covered and eventually seated a scoreboard was mounted from the roof. Remembered fondly for some innovative animations (a tank when Vale attacked, for instance), the scoreboard finally broke down during the 2022-23 season. It will be replaced by a brand-new big screen in the corner of the Railway and Bycars stands. In this feature we show a few images of the scoreboard from our archive…
