Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Covolan joined the club in the summer of 2021 signing a two-year deal. He had rose to prominence the previous season with his displays for Torquay United in the National League. However, he was sent-off on his senior debut but retained his place as number one until a second sending-off against Swindon Town.
Following that incident, Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke expressed his anger and Covolan was duly relegated to deputy to loanee Tomas Holy and Valiants youngster Aidan Stone for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
In total, Covolan made twenty two appearances for the Valiants. The move means the Brazilian is unlikely to appear for the club again before the expiry of his contract. It also means the Valiants now have just one senior keeper in Aidan Stone and are therefore likely to add to their ranks ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The goalkeeper is the Vale’s third senior departure of the summer following those of James Gibbons and Alex Hurst, while the Valiants have brought in Funso Ojo and Lewis Cass to boost their ranks so far.
