Something we targeted – Northampton Town manager says club planned Covolan red card incident
Port Vale’s opening day opponents Northampton Town deliberately planned to catch goalkeeper Lucas Covolan out, according to their manager Jon Brady.
Covolan saw red on his Valiants debut after being handed a red card for fouling Town striker Nicke Kabamba as he bore down on goal.
According to the Northampton manager, the club deliberately want to “hunt” Covolan down as he went off his line during the game.
Obviously the real turning point in the game was Covolan getting sent off, Nicke did really well and that was something we targeted before the game…
Brady told the Northampton Chronicle: “Obviously the real turning point in the game was Covolan getting sent off,” he said. “Nicke (Kabamba) did really well and that was something we targeted before the game.
We knew their goalkeeper would get involved in the game and come off his line to get involved in the play and we wanted to hunt him down.
“Nicke did brilliantly to do that and get the ball back and that was obviously a big moment.”
