I’m not happy – Darrell Clarke criticises Covolan’s “stupid” decision
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke said that Lucas Covolan “let his team mates down today and he will be punished for that.”
Covolan was dismissed for a high challenge on Harry McKirdy in an incident which arguably was instrumental in Vale’s 3-1 home defeat.
I don’t want to hang a lad out to dry but he has let his team mates down today and he will be punished for that…
Clarke told the media: “I’m not happy, let’s put it that way. He knows how I feel.
“I don’t want to hang a lad out to dry but he has let his team mates down today and he will be punished for that.
“I think it’s… he caught the ball and he has kicked out. It is a stupid decision.
“There is no need to do that and I think he has let his team mates down. That is not taking away from the first half, we were nowhere near it.
“I think there was no reason for him to do it. He has caught the ball. There is no reason for him to raise his leg. It is lack of discipline and he will be punished for that, he will learn from that.
“He has got to learn from that otherwise he won’t be staying at the club for very long.
“That is the way I look at it. For an easy decision like that, and every point counts in this league. Every decision players make counts, every decision I make counts in this league, and he has made a bad decision today.”

This is a smoke screen for what appears to be wrong, the 3 at the back is a great way to play with the right calibre of player to play it, unfortunately you do not find that quality in League 2, we are over run in midfield because the 3 becomes a 5, against poor teams we have got away with it. Clubs have worked this out and we are increasingly having to come from behind.

It seems that the new signings aren’t as what we already have. To leave Gibbo out is a stupid tactical mess. Go back to 442.
