Port Vale sign Devante Rodney – club confirm signing of striker
Port Vale sign Devante Rodney: the Valiants have confirmed the signing of former Salford City striker Devante Rodney. The forward is the first new signing of the summer.
Rodney has signed a three-year deal with the club, keeping him tied to Port Vale until June 2023. He will compete with Mark Cullen and Tom Pope while John Askey is also looking for a fourth striker to add competition.
“John very much sees Devante as a player for now and the future, he’s of a young age and just had a really good spell at Halifax – chipping in goals to help get them into a playoff position,” Chief Executive Colin Garlick told the official Port Vale FC website.
“The gaffer likes the look of him and he’s one that really fits into his plans going forward. John will want to kick him on and take him to that next level.”
This season Rodney has scored eight goals in 22 appearances while on loan for Stockport and Halifax but was released at the end of the season by his parent club Salford City. He is a powerful forward who can play both on the flank or as a central forward.
