Andy Jones scores for Wales – about the video
Striker Andy Jones had earned an International call-up in 1986 during a prolific season for Port Vale FC. The striker had been signed from non-league side Rhyl by Port Vale manager John Rudge and had been developed into a top class forward for the club. During his most prolific spell for the club, Jones ended the 1986-87 season with a post-war record of 37 goals for the club. His form earned him a call-up to represent his country. The striker made his international debut as Ian Rush’s strike partner on 1st April 1987 against Finland at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground. The Welsh recorded a 4–0 victory, with Jones scoring late on with a volley. This brief clip shows that goal.
