Tom Conlon player profile:
Locally-born midfielder Tom Conlon signed a one-year deal with the Valiants after impressing in pre-season friendly games.
Conlon had begun his career in the Stoke City youth team before being released and joining local non-league side Newcastle Town. Signed by Peterborough United in 2015 he made his league debut while on loan with Stevenage. He subsequently joined Stevenage on a permanent basis for whom he made over fifty first-team appearances.
After recovering from injury he made his debut in a game against Forest Green and soon became a regular in the Vale midfield and scored his first goal in a 6-2 home defeat to Lincoln City. He blotted his copy book with a red card in a Checkatrade Trophy game with Bristol Rovers but following a decent first season with the Valiants, Port Vale duly took up the option of a one-year extension to Conlon’s contract at the end of the season.
After a strong finish to the 2019-20 season, Conlon agreed a new two year contract in the summer of 2020.
He enjoyed a landmark 2020-21 season, being appointed club captain, becoming the first midfielder in years to reach double figures in the goalscoring charts and sweeping the board at the player of the year awards.
His 2021-22 season ended prematurely through injury but Conlon was there on the sidelines as the club clinched promotion to League One. He returned from that injury to become a regular squad member in the 2022-23 League One campaign.
However, after another injury in the summer of 2023 he departed the club to join Oldham Athletic in January 2024.
