Match Report: Port Vale 3-0 Crewe
Port Vale 3-0 Crewe: two goals from Louis Dodds and another from JJ Hooper enabled Vale to win their home fixture against near-neighbours Crewe.
Valiants manager Rob Page made one change with midfielder Michael O’Connor coming in for winger Byron Moore. The Vale got off to a great start when Louis Dodds notched his seventh of the season just three minutes into the game. But that early drama apart, the first-half was mainly a dour affair with chances at a premium.
The Valiants had further chances for striker AJ Leitch-Smith and midfielder Sam Foley but had to wait until seven minutes from time before Dodds doubled his and Port Vale’s tally for the day. It took Dodds to eight goals for the season so far.
The Valiants wrapped up the win with sub JJ Hooper’s second goal in two games – this one was a curling strike that beat visiting goalkeeper Ben Garrett. At 3-0 down there was no way back for Crewe.
It was a comprehensive win for the Valiants and a welcome response to the side’s disappointing defeat to Chesterfield.
