Mick Cullerton player profile:
Scottish striker Mick Cullerton had two spells with the club and continued to be involved with Port Vale after he retired from playing.
He first joined Vale in 1965 as a teenager playing in Stanley Matthews’ youth-orientated Valiants line-up. He was top-scorer in 1966-67 but lost his place after criticising manager Gordon Lee. He was subsequently loaned out to Chester in 1969 and left to join them on a free transfer shortly afterwards.
After spells in non-league, notably with Stafford Rangers, he returned to Vale Park for a £5,000 fee in 1975 and he marked his home debut with a hat-trick. He was the club’s top scorer for a second time in 1975-76. He left in 1978 to join Northwich Victoria.
After retiring as a player he continued to be involved with the club both as commercial manager (1982-85) and as a match summariser on local radio.
