Scrapbook Clippings: teenager Mick nets a hat-trick for Port Vale
With thanks to David Brown, we have a couple of clippings of a memorable Mick Cullerton hat-trick for the club.
These clippings cover the Port Vale versus Swansea Town game back in the 1967-68 season, which finished in a 4-2 win for the Valiants. It took place on the 20th April 1968 and 3,555 fans were in attendance. Ironically, the fixture at Swansea had finished in a 4-2 loss for the Vale so this was a suitable reply. In addition to Cullerton’s hat-trick, Roy Chapman was also on the scoresheet for the Valiants. It also came during a period of financial turmoil for the club with Vale being informed just weeks earlier, that they would be expelled from the League at the end of the season for financial irregularities. Fortunately, for the club they were re-admitted during the summer.
