Veteran striker Bernie Slaven joined Port Vale in 1993. Highlights of his spell included a hat-trick against Barnet, the winning goal in a FA Cup shock over Southampton and the winning goal in Vale’s Autoglass Trophy win in 1993. He left in 1994 to join Darlington.
