The 1969-1970 Port Vale season was a successful one for the Valiants as it culminated in the club’s promotion to the third Division under manager Gordon Lee. Notable players that season included Roy Sproson, John King, Keith Ball, Clint Boulton and Ron Wilson. John James was top-scorer with seventeen goals while John Green was named player of the year. The Valiants were promoted as the fourth placed side at the end of the season.
