  1. Stu, thanks for the entertainment via the podcast. You and the boys kept me “alive” in 2020/21 with you preview/ reviews.

Being in Devon, the podcast kept me in touch with my team. Enjoyed the special pods and the relaxed presentation. Bezza’s rants and Johnny’s analysis supported the pod but gave listeners the chance to argue their points.

Good luck with you new designation and  as a retired supporter, family time is important, so enjoy!!

    Best regards.

  2. Great pod! As I could not see the game or listen to the commentary, you all relived the experiences for me. Gutted that I could not be to see it.

Totally correct to tackle and comment on the racism point first. No need for the comment that I have seen. Although Their keeper could of/ should of shown the delight of their second goal with ORIENT supporters. The opposite does bring out the reaction from opposing supporters, but still no Need for a racist rant.

Big call out to Smudge as he also played with stitches in his head?

Will watch the game on Tuesday but not sure that the atmosphere will be the same! 😀

  3. Pod was a replica of my thoughts. I certainly picked up Wilson’s closing down, positional play and technical ability. Smudge had a fantastic game for me, Matt is a powerful/ awkward character. Garity full of running. Proctor’s ability to hold the ball up by taking a step back rather than meeting it with a heading attempt was superb. Man on his back could not win it.

One thing I noticed again was how many free kicks Devante gives away that gives the opposition the ball back.

Overall, still bouncing on a Monday after the win even though Devon weather has been gloomy today.

Hope Stu that the house move went well! That, brings back some memories!

  4. Interesting points about team improvements. For me, the following points are for discussion.

Goalkeeping- Potential for improvement and greater competition.

Wingbacks- Improvements and more threat. Probably the most improved department.

Centre backs- Height, speed and aggression needed and maybe from what I’ve seen and know, an improvement.

Midfield- Pett looks a good acquisition. Walker gives us more height and legs. If Taylor can improve we will be quite well off for mixing it up.

Wingers- No change for me, unless we get someone in. Amos remains a passenger in many games. Will be interesting to see how we use the ability of Worrall.

Strikers- We need Rodney and Wilson to click and for Procter to score more per games than previous. So for now, potentially better if we can get a youngster that can pressurise the others.

Summary- Overall a better group of players and certainly taller and experience apart from goalkeeping. I feel DC has flexibility within the squad to tweak formations to suit if required to do so. Heart says play off’s, head says just short.

  5. Good pod lads and enjoyed it. Maybe in the side, we need more physical presentation, particularly in midfield?

Leadership as discussed previously and possibly a little more controlled aggression. I feel we are a bit powder puff in certain areas at the moment.

Our interview with Super Jon McCarthy is out!

It was truly amazing to spend some time with Vale's record signing Jon McCarthy who gave up his evening to go through some great memories. His unusual route in to professional football and how he ended up at Vale were the starting points. Then his time at Vale which included an amazing cup run, and a promotion charge that almost ended up with Vale in the Premier League!

Available on Apple, Google and Spotify podcasts. And here! https://aleandthevale.podbean.com

Any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated! The sound quality isn't great for 20 mins but we do get it fixed!

Enjoyed the Super John pod. An intelligent guy and a modest one who actually, got the most out of his career.

Seems to enjoy his current role and was interesting to hear about his reluctance to come on!

I sat with John and his wife at a friends wedding and tried not to talk to much about the Vale.

To coin a phrase, Top Man!

Well done Ale and the Vale for another experience.

  7. Performances of late would make a parson swear!

Enjoyed the latest podcast but some of the scoring is outlandish!

Keep up the good work but try to control some of the extremities, it is in danger of curtailing what has been so far, a superb collection.

Passion is running high, I feel it!

  8. Hi Stupers! I take the point about the strikers. To have six on the books at the moment seems top heavy!

Also, are we missing midfield creativity and goals from that department? Woman creates but we don’t have a killer ball player in the side, regardless of who is up front.

Goal contributions from centre backs appears to have dried up and full back goal tally is non existent.

So, if we are becoming more defensively sound, where are the goals coming from, particularly with our current injury list?

Oh for players of the past!

I know we eat up’s and down’s in football and it feels like toothache at the moment, but I was thinking of Chesterfield, semi finalists in the league cup and now in the National league. I hope that we escape the drop!

Maybe to get more quality out of our current squad, this is where the coaching staff have to earn their money.

  9. Bit of anger and frustration came across on your pod, which is fully understandable.
We are really in a rut and never seen the reset button pressed so much.

The basics are missing and we should have enough experience on the pitch to put it right.
As you rightly  point out, be it injuries, recruitment, late appointment of a manager has all contributed to pi$$ poor performances.

At least I look forward to your pods, but like Bezza, feeling very scared of the consequences.

Let’s hope for some improvement soon!

  10. Listened and enjoyed the podcast!

As you all debate the situation, I wonder if Flitcroft is preparing his SWOT analysis of the club and getting it ready for the board?

The question of whether  it will work, will depend on the mixture and leadership of the board and the personalities within the club. Trying to embed the strategies across the club will be an interesting but exciting venture.

The sting out of the boundaries / roles and responsibilities is crucial to avoid any underlying upset and it must be both well communicated / visualised without any unnecessary management speak.

Maybe this is a five year strategy. At least we have one!

A journey to enjoy.......... let’s see. Hopefully so!

  11. Good evening Ale and Vale podcast team! Enjoyed the Boom Boom interview and he is a fine man. My granddaughter sponsored him when he was at the Vale following the departure of the great George Pilkington.

For the future, how about interviewing either Phil Sproson, Ray Williams or Mike Cullerton, being ex players, a bit controversial with their commentaries and all great Vale players?

  12. Snap for me! 54 years of supporting the Vale and 46 grounds visited!

Any manager from Crowley, Flitcroft. Adams for me. I just want effort, passionate players who LEARN from mistakes and improve.

It will be great to see youth added to the squad as we acknowledge players who have given the club good service!

Onwards and upwards I hope! We have the foundations, so as fans, get behind whoever and move forward.

  13. Looking at the EFL site, I see that Carlisle, up to early January, captured £138,000 from their Ifollow streaming of games.

I wonder if some of our streaming money will be used in either managerial or player recruitment.

On saying that, don’t know our figure.

    Forest Green Review!

We're joined by OneValeFan founder Rob Fielding who gives us his thoughts on the game, and how the manager situation lies now after 2 league games under Pugh. Did Vale play well and give a good away performance, or was it a missed opportunity? We go in depth on the game!

    Morning Ale&Vale Podcast team.

Sunday morning listening today and will as always enjoy the banter. Credit to you all for keeping it amusing and factual. Bezza’s watch obviously has all the answers!
