Some of the soiling going on on here is just downright mad! How did people cope pre-internet? In those days people just waited to see what was announced on Radio Stoke or printed in The Sentinel or they saw new signings at the next match they went to.

    The world has gone mad.

He's been fit for the last 2 seasons. I believe his biggest problem at Portsmouth is he's a winger come left wingback,  rather than a leftback come left wingback. When they changed to a flat back 4 he's never really fitted in. His weekly wage is so high he's out of the price range for most league 1 clubs. There aren't many footballers today who haven't had a prolonged absence by their mid 20s. Grant and Wilson have historically had problems season after season. Very few players haven't had a single injury disrupted season by 24 or 25. Really it's then down to the medical to determine if it's a chronic problem which will keep recurring. In modern football Smith is a freak in terms of fitness.

Realistically you want players to be over 30 games a season. I think Ray Walker was around 32 league games a season, Robbie Earle 33 on average for us. Both had pretty much full seasons for us and some pretty long periods out. Grant has averaged 25 games in his career (the same as James Wilson). Grant actually had a strange career at Plymouth,  two injury disrupted, followed by 2 where he was almost ever present, then last season. The big problem is if they have a chronic injury which keeps repeating.  If we discounted every player whose missed 3 or 4 months of the season at some point we'll be recruiting from a pool which is really a puddle. Whether Hume has a chronic issue only medical staff can make a judgement.

calf injury? must be a good signing for us, he can join the rest😄:drink:😇

I just want to say that if ever there was a clear indication of where we have been going wrong and what we ought to do about it, today was that day. The first half encapsulated all that has been wrong with the Vale this season. Lethargic, passive, reactive, winding up the fans. The Vale were quite rightly booed off at half time. Within a minute of the start of the second half the crowd were fully behind the lads as it was so obvious that the mindset had changed totally and the Vale were going for it. Two goals and possibly/probably could have been more, what a contrast. Come on now Andy, ignore the "science" and the statisticians and just get the lads to go out there and play to win, we don't expect any more than that and will back the lads to the hilt if they play like todays second half.
    Come on the Vale..........

not only boos, many left before half time!    3000 on fri i reckon. people are really ,really brassed off with the lot of them. stop the <ovf censored> crosby, sort them out or head for cheltenham.:drink:

    From a post on FB:

These science/medical guys seem to know the signs of when a player is at risk of being injured and yet we seem to get one injury after another. I presume Uche was injured on Tuesday despite being on the bench and we can now add Massey, Alblaster and Devine to that list from the game. Conlon, Wilson, Jones, Cass, Clark, Plant and Thomas are also out while Iacovitti, Balmer and Grant are being nursed back gradually into action. Something somewhere does not add up. That’s 14 players not capable of playing a full game.

yeh this sports science is a joke fad, itll be back to st johns lads next season and lols magic sponge!!!!!!!!!!:drink:

Has to be comfortable mid table which would be progress against last year.

If we finished the season now , I would say it’s been a poor season taking into account our budget, permanent and loan signings.

My caveat to midtable is to have a team which is more interesting to watch who can get you up out of your seat. I’m really envious of teams like Peterborough who have pacey players who have skill to beat a man with a we are going to score more goals than you attitude.

                          Ojo      Arblaster

Just read Steve Evans account of last nights game, he could see where it was heading, and he made the necessary changes and adjustments, and they won the game. That was the difference between the teams, Stevenage have a manager with experience and no how. We certainly don’t.

    stevie in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:drink:

Some of the dreadful home performances have really knocked the stuffing and enthusiasm out of a lot of people. It's not just the loosing it's the seeming lack of effort and stupid mistakes.  We really need to be on the front foot from the off and show much more intent.

here here, definitley p------ off with present attitudes at vale park. too cosseted players , club seems to be run as a charity. why cant i sit on my seat i have sat on/near for nigh on 70 yrs? to save the cost of a few stewards? are we the only ground in the league that has an occupied stand with no toilet block? wont be going tonight, first cup match missed in many years, championship ready? what a joke. 🤔

Sang has improved, while Clark and Plant are good options at RWB. Gibbons can do a job on the left; although he doesn't answer the lack of a proper LWB who can cross with his left. If we'd signed Gibbo we'd still be overloaded with right footed wingbacks. At least Grant might be back and hopefully fit for the rest of the month. What we desperately need is someone left footed to play LWB.

    and be signing another crock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:drink:
