Hmmm. Counting my huge amount of money in a centrally heated mansion or a freezing December night in Burslem in front of3000 v Crawley. Let me think on that one.

He can count his money after the game. You’re retired for a long time as a footballer. Plus he’d have another £3/4k to count each Monday. Win win

The statement yesterday clearly reads that Uche is out of contract but remains in conversation with the club over new terms.

You can not get more black n white than that

Hopefully, someone will come in for him before we make the mistake of re-signing him.

Agree, but he can still be entitled to a contract offer at the end of the current one, esp if he’s met a threshold. Not arguing over it but I’ll judge this window with a month to go. We need to do business early, everyone agrees that I think. Let’s be positive. A fully fit Uche could be a great foil for a fox in the box. #illgetmecoat

  3. This Uche business, everyone needs to calm down a bit. Club clearly put out a statement of fact, rather than any detail which is fine. If Uche current deal says he has a contract offer at the end of the season then that’s what has to happen. It does not mean he will want to stay or we will offer him a deal that’s acceptable to him. The season only ended 48 hours ago.

Where information is concerned the club are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. No other business is expected to be as communicative as football clubs to paying customers.

I think the forum coming up is important in clarifying broadly what the club is going to do next. The core support of the club is obvious from the seasons in L1. For me the club needs to park stuff that can be parked that is not related to the development of the team now / in future and concentrate financially on a return to L1 straight away. I always appreciate that I don't have a proper insight on the finances nor what the owners want to invest.

Forum will be interesting. I was thinking the other day why don’t Vale look to do a Man U/Radcliffe deal if there’s investment needed? Could work for all parties, shanahans own club and all the community stuff which they are clearly great at and sell the football side to someone if interested. Funding the football side with a possible payoff of academy stars etc whilst having a minority share in club and board representation. I’ve no idea how it will work at Man U long term or if it’s just an “in” for a full takeover but would seem to leave everyone with their strengths and possibly increase funding in the on the pitch side. I may just be talking absolute arse though.

I'm with Phil Sproson on this point. When you play half your games on such a big pitch as Vale Park then playing 3 players at the back is a risky business and you have to have the "perfect" players to play that system. You can perhaps get away with it in Lge 2 as the players are not as skillful but in Lge 1 and above it's too easy for opposition skillful players to exploit the space down the wings.

I hope Vale play a 4-3-3 or some version of it next season, two big central defenders with a ball winning midfielder in front of them, two attacking full backs, two skillful outside midfield players and up front, one or two strikers together with a fast winger.

4-3-3 When attacking which could morph into 4-5-1 without the ball.

In effect John Askey's formation and tactics.

Thanks. Give. The width of the pitch I’m with you here.

  6. Genuine question here, how does a manager decide what formation to play? This season DM just had to work with what he inherited, but next season, Is DM looking at what he has and finding a formation to best fit or picking a strategy first up then seeing what players can fit in where, then the recruitment of the rest begins. Or do we just look for 22 players that can play in a few places then chop and change depending on opposition?

Great result yesterday, one of the things which has been mentioned but is a real shift from previously is the no-nonsense defending. So many times there were situations where a ball forward was played through by BR, an attacker would be chasing and we hoofed it off the side to safety.

Before they would let it bounce, try to get it under control and play it out, or make a risky back pass to the keeper. We conceded so many stupid goals of our own making like that (both by inviting pressure and the defenders always looked in 2 minds as to what to do). Now it seems they've changed to a simple 'if in doubt' mentality and looked solid doing it for the first time. Just hope we can keep it up!

There also seems a tactic to “kick for touch” to use a rugby phrase. Noticed it laws couple of games. Rather than just clear up the pitch it looks like clear lines and get it out. Suppose it gives more time to reset and get up the pitch.

But we fired the people with the skill !

So get new people with the skill. If it’s the same folk as before then great but I’m not a fan of going back. Accept it’s not working and move on.

  9. As been said before, good owners, agree with all that but for me Patrick is a massive weak link. I get having trusty lieutenants and all that but imo he should step back and get a football man in. Watching the Wrexham series it’s clear they got in footy people. Deadpool and the other guy own it and ultimately have final say when signing the cheques but the structure there seems to me to be skills and knowledge first, not family. Admirable wanting to be hands on but you need people who have the skill, and if not you can fire them.

  10. Lump on Vale to win Saturday. Big Darren should be walking in that session tomorrow, sitting down all the players and making it crystal clear that Carol has binned Flitcroft and you’re all playing for your future. If you’re not up for it, go now, stay away for the rest of the season and we’ll pay you off/flog you but don’t be expecting many buyers on recent performance. This is not over yet, but it’s getting squeaky bum time.

  11. Imo DoF is gone at the end of the season. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was part of the deal to get Moore. Moore told to make the best of the rest of the season, they all know it’s over but if a miracle comes along we’ll take it. Moore has free rein next season and funds available. Moore only has one choice right now, tip it bollix and walk out now criticising the club and players or stay, be here next season and start again. His reputation is shot if he hangs onto end of season raking up losses then jumps ship.
