  1. It’s been a well repeated story in recent months but Port Vale’s paucity of striking options leaves them desperately short of options for Tuesday night’s vital game against Wycombe Wanderers. On Saturday, Darren Moore opted to pair Uche Ikpeazu with teenager Baylee Dipepa. Ikpeazu, still returning to full fitness after injury, was only able to […] The post Loft injury leaves Valiants with potentially one fully fit striker for vital clash appeared first on onevalefan.co.uk. 2. Vale were beaten 4-2 at home to Exeter. Pic by Tom GreenHello and welcome to our Sunday morning edition of The Valiant for April 14. Vale’s League One status is hanging by a thread after an awful second-half performance against Exeter kept them in the relegation zone. Darren Moore’s side were excellent before the break to take a deserved lead through Ethan Chislett’s volley from the edge of the area, on 31 minutes, before doubling their lead with Baylee Dipepa’s low strike, on 40. But Millenic Alli’s deflected goal 12 minutes into the second half caused a Vale wobble which became a collapse as Zak Jules, on 67 minutes, Luke Harris, on 79, and Alli, on 89, wrapped up a 4-2 victory for the visitors. Burton’s 2-1 win at Stevenage completed a grim afternoon for Vale who remain in the final relegation spot, three points behind the Brewers with three games each to play. Vale return to action at home to Wycombe on Tuesday knowing that, realistically, only a win will do. 20. Connor Ripley makes a second-half save in Vale’s 3-0 defeat at Peterborough. Pic by Pete StonierHello and welcome to our Thursday morning edition of The Valiant for April 11. Vale’s hopes of pulling away from the relegation zone were thwarted as they were comprehensively beaten at Peterborough. In fact, last night’s 3-0 defeat means the Vale have fallen back into the bottom four, behind Burton on goal difference. Darren Moore set his side up to try to frustrate Darren Ferguson’s promotion-chasing Posh, a plan that was working, albeit with a few scares, until the home side took the lead in first-half stoppage time when a short corner was played to Joel Randall and his shot took a deflection on its way past Connor Ripley. Vale’s evening got worse when Harrison Burrows scored from the spot on 56 minutes after Ryan Loft had pulled back Josh Knight while defending a free kick. And the home side’s superiority was underlined on 86 minutes when Burrows’ cross was deflected into his own net by Alex Iacovitti. The Vale return to action on Saturday at home to Exeter, one of four games left to try to stay in League One.
