Port Vale manager Jon Brady has torn into his players after the “unacceptable” 4-0 loss to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
I can’t accept when you don’t want to run, track your runner, don’t close off the middle of the pitch or don’t want to run forward. It is unacceptable. I have told several face to face, it is not good enough. That is why we are in the position we are in…
Vale’s awful display has been the subject of heavy criticism and Brady says he has directly told players that their performances were unacceptable.
Brady told the media: “I can’t accept when you don’t want to run, track your runner, don’t close off the middle of the pitch or don’t want to run forward. It is unacceptable. I have told several face to face, it is not good enough. That is why we are in the position we are in.
“And we haven’t scored enough goals. We haven’t got people to put the ball in the back of the net. Before this game, we have been one of the better teams in the league defensively. But they can’t keep sitting deep and blocking.
“And then unopposed giveaways in the middle of the pitch. You can coach as much as you want but you can’t coach ability levels between Saturday and Tuesday. It hasn’t been good enough. The opposition are far better than us. We are not good enough.”

Don’t just blame the players look first at yourself putting a team out with no recognised forwards no matter how bad they are is stupid you have brought.most of these forwards to the club if these are not good enough why have you brought them in in the first place this doesn’t look good for the recruitment in the summer Jon Brady at this moment in time looks as bad as Moore I hope I am proved wrong but at the moment there has been no sign of improvement
David, while I agree on the team selection, I do think the signings point is harsh. I do wonder how much Brady is to blame for the low quality signings. If you put yourself in any decent player’s shoes – are you really going to commit to joining a club so far adrift of safety in January? You’d be signing up for several months of a slow and inevitable relegation. It’s a massive backwards step for most which is why we were only able to attract a handful of loan players and some unattached veterans. I think the summer will be the real test for the recruitment as I think there was no chance we were ever going to get anyone decent in January.
Does That means 9 or 10 changes for Chelsea Mr Brady? Like Mr Moore he talks the talk and currently not delivering. I’m going to give him the first dozen games of League 2 before I make a proper judgement of his managerial capability when hopefully he has had chance to get rid of the majority of the deadwood and bring in some players who will wear the shirt with pride and give it 100 percent. Jury’s out at this point. On another matter why oh why did he not bring back arguably our most creative attacking threat in Rico Richards from his loan and what the hell has happened with Shorrock??
Get the youth team in , give them a chance . Nothing to lose, these players should be made to watch the youngsters as they will learn about desire , body on the line etc….
Two of the worst displays (Donny and Wycombe) I have witnessed as a Vale supporter in a long long time, this team and manager are NO BETTER than when DM was here, I fear the worst next season, NOT ONE OF THEM, after yesterday are not fit to wear the shirt, wycome strolled around like it was just a kickabout,WE have had chance after chance to get out of this rut,but never turn up and fight,i-am embarrassed watching such dire performances,,,,SO play the kids next week v chelsea, and the rest of this poor season,,,GET RID OF THE SHIRKERS,who call themselves FOOTBALLERS,and GET RID-OF THIS MANAGER,who talks-and sets out his team like DM,,,,,either-that or the NATIONAL LEAGUE HERE WE COME.
It’s seems every other week Brady makes the same after match statement. Doncaster was very poor, Wycombe was dreadful! As I’ve said before Brady was sold down the river by the owners. It makes me wonder if Brady knew he was going to loose his 3 most experienced forwards, plus Johnson and Clark, only to be replaced by Two has beens who’s legs have gone, and a bunch of inexperienced kids, would he have taken the job? While I try to give him the benefit of the doubt I am struggling. I know with having a nonexistent forward line it makes everybody else’s job impossible. BUT, the type of goals we are conceding are school boys stuff, and these should have been stopped by now with decent coaching. This is the second time the owners have left managers with an impossible job to do!
Three consecutive away defeats, and the manner of those losses reflects the fragile mentality and ability of the squad. The January transfer window was a failed patch up job, with those recruited inevitably exiting at season’s end. Brady should already be working on his retained list and presenting the owners with a plan for League 2 next season. Immediate promotion will be PR message, but avoiding a Carlisle like collapse will also be on the minds of some supporters.
Brady should have seen enough by now to be starting work on his end of season retained list.
