Defender Liam Gordon is set to become Port Vale’s 18th full International should he play for Guyana in their International match against Dominica a week on Friday.
The left-sided defender has made 23 appearances for the Valiants this campaign. He has also been handed 26 caps by his country, scoring twice.
Manager Jon Brady confirmed to the media that Gordon was one of three Port Vale players to be called up for games during the International break – the other two being goalkeeper Joe Gauci and striker Ben Waine (for Australia and New Zealand respectively).
The call-ups could cause problems for the Valiants. The club already have a busy fixture list due to their cup run but they are seeking to have the games against Doncaster and Wycombe postponed due to the three call-ups.
This season has been an unusual one for Port Vale. The club has officially been in existence for 150 years but have only produced fifteen full Internationals prior to this season. It means International appearances have been few and far between.
However, with loan goalkeeper Joe Gauci appearing for Australia and Waine appearing for New Zealand Gordon’s call-up could see three players earn International honours this season.

My father Eric Dawson died at Vale Park 36 years ago today after watching Vale v Barnsley. He was a Vice President of the Club and the Vale meant the world to him. I have followed the Vale on his behalf since his passing. Between us we’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly, let’s hope that the good times return. On his behalf Up the Vale
Sorry for your loss Keith and indeed up the Vale!
