Port Vale manager Jon Brady says he’s reasonably happy with the side’s improved form and it would be “special” to pick up back-to-back wins.
Four points in two has been a good return and it’s now the next game. We can’t focus any much further ahead as there are a lot of games to come. It would be really special if we can pick up back-to-back wins…
The Vale take on Luton Town on Saturday eyeing a second successive win. Speaking to the club’s inhouse PVTV media team Brady said he was happy with the side’s performances this week. He said: “Four points in two has been a good return and it’s now the next game. We can’t focus any much further ahead as there are a lot of games to come. It would be really special if we can pick up back-to-back wins.
“Over the last six games form’s been better. I feel that overall we’re improving but still on the ball I’d ask for more. There’s a lot of stuff that has been really good. We stood up to the physical challenge the other night really well. If we can perform at our best, everyone at their best, then we don’t half give ourselves a chance on Saturday.
“With improvement there’s most belief throughout the group. There’s been a real change in the work ethic. Lot of positives we just have to keep improving. If we keep improving we’ve got a chance.”
Brady also lavished praise on recently appointed captain Kyle John adding “He leads through performance. I feel he thrives with the captaincy and I think it’s given him a bit more of a bounce with his game. That’s what you want from a captain.”
The manager also feels that the players can inspire the supporters and vice versa saying: “We as a group – staff, players – appreciated the energy from the fans against Reading last week. But I think (that came as) they could see the energy we were putting in. So, it’s a bit of both ways. It’s starting to build that trust – if you really get behind us, you can spur us on.”
Brady will be missing several players from the match squad as he confirmed: “Ben (Heneghan) wholeheartedly tried to win the header (and was injured) – the protocol is he’s out for this weekend. Onel (Hernandez) instead of him getting ten minutes here and there we’re trying to get him up to match speed. Maybe this week might be too soon. Ethon (Archer) has been a bright spark for us but we can’t play him against his parent club.”
Brady also paid tribute to departing coach Simon Ireland saying it was “Really sad. I enjoyed the relationship with Simon. He’s been a real, shining star for us. It’s a sad loss.”
Talking about the Luton game Brady dismissed the internal dissatisfaction that Luton are experiencing as he concluded: “That’s for them to deal with. We’ve got to deal with what goes on on the pitch.”
