Port Vale’s highly promising left wingback Jack Shorrock has joined Chester FC on loan until December.
Shorrock, who progressed through the youth ranks holds the club records for the Vale’s youngest player and youngest goalscorer. He is regarded a top prospect but has struggled for gametime under Darren Moore.
This is somewhere that I can get my season going and show the fans what I can do…
Jack Shorrock
Shorrock is contracted to the Valiants until 2028.
The club will hope his time at the National League North side will afford him regular football and a chance to experience the senior game at a lower level.
Shorrock commented on his move to the Chester website saying: “This is somewhere that I can get my season going and show the fans what I can do. The opportunities I’ve had at a young age have improved my maturity. I’m comfortable playing anywhere on the left-hand side.”
Three other first-team players are also on loan – James Plant at Yeovil, Sam Hart at Falkirk and Rico Rchards at Walsall.

Ridiculous Shorrock should be on 1st team sheet every game
He’s still very young, but I would have retained him as a match day squad regular. He’s played mostly left wing back, but I think he’s got the ability to be a fine orthodox left winger adding pace, width, vitality and broader attacking threat, yet help defensively too. That’s not Moore’s style, but perhaps it’s one part his low scoring team that’s missing. Game time at Chester yes, but a loan at League 2 level would be a better fit. Signing Marvin Johnson has temporarily blocked Shorrock’s development path.
Unless Shorrock has gone backwards under Moore and his coaching staff, you would have expected at least a decent national league team would have come in for him.
