Port Vale manager Darren Moore has praised the unity of his playing squad and their “determination” to turn the side’s poor form around.
The Vale manager is under considerable pressure after the home loss to Plymouth Argyle sent the club to the bottom of the League One table. Moore addressed the media ahead of Port Vale’s trip to Lincoln City at the weekend.
Moore told BBC Radio Stoke: “the volume that they’ve put in training, the intensity has been really, really good. The numbers that they put together have been really good. Shows the appetite of them, the determination of them. From a coaching view those are the encouraging things.”
The manager also had praise for a meeting which was instigated by the players. He added: “it was a meeting that was called by the players. The senior players. What I got from it was leadership, accountability, responsibility, togetherness, one-ness, unity. Rewarding and I was proud of it because it was due to the culture we have created. We are together as a group. We know it has to come from the dressing room to turn it around.”
As to the discussions between manager and players Moore said: “we spoke about those decisive moments and we’ve just got to be more ruthless and turning those decisive moments into points on the board. We’ve got to be better at it.”
Moore is aware of the criticism from supporters adding: “it’s about staying level-headed. When you get the outside noise the only thing you can do is keep working hard and trust one another. We will keep fighting every single week to turn this form around.”
“For me as a manager, you’ve got to look at the next game and next opportunity. To look back is not going to serve a purpose. Every single season, managers will be at the top of the table, be at the bottom of the table – the biggest thing is where you finish at the end of the season.”
Lincoln are tough opponents for off-form Vale and Moore says “at least we know what to expect. It’s another tough game. League One asks questions of you every week. It’s up to us that we come up with the right answers. We know as a group of players we have to be well prepared and it has to be a group effort not just one player.”
Moore also acknowledged the impact of the travelling Vale fans saying: “the away-day travel has been good but we have to give them something to cheer about. We know if we knuckle down and really perform strongly and then we know the away fans will get right behind the team.”

All together ? So were the Drifters & they had loads of changes perhaps Vale would benefit at this junction of the season before it’s to late
First read bullsh#t like this back in 1983/4, when John McGrath’s promotion winning side unravelled and struggled badly in the third tier. Heard it many times since, the result is almost always the same. I want to believe it, but….
When everything hits the fan the mess is all yours Carol. You will not listen to the fans, in my eyes you are as bad as Smurthwaite, but the football is worse, I can wait until Mr Moore is pushed out.
What a load of codswallop! The only words I want to hear from Mr “disappointing ” Moore are I QUIT. Saturday at Lincoln gives me the feels of Fleetwood away on Crosbys last stand, I’m really looking forward to it in a bizarre way. Full support as always to the players but am predicting a heavy loss and no goals scored. Hope I’m wrong! Roll on 5 pm Saturday in Lincoln either going to be sheer amazement if we score a goal or even get a point or call it a longshore a win! If as I anticipate a loss occurs best cover your ears Mr Moore and also the other deluded geezer Hancock( any relation to Matt Hancock politicians, cos he ws full of misguided ideas) as I’m sure we will voice our opinions. Moore Out NOW
All together on the training grounds but not on the match day as Mr Moore Is the one who picks this disjointed side every week & plays players out of positions & doesn’t pick the best players to start with. So I don’t hold much hope as the players don’t pick themselves.
Well done to the players that instigated the meeting hoping words were listened to. by coaches and DM (manager) Try your best do fight for Port Vale ⚽
Outside noise? So that’s what he thinks of the fans’ concerns. Arrogance personified. Get him gone.
With the club’s recent vote of confidence Moore remains Manager, at least for the time being. Nothing wrong in wishing the best, so against the odds and recent results I’m hoping for the top form away win at Barnsley to be repeated at Lincoln. I think Vale’s squad is good enough to secure safety. It needs consistent “best team” selection combined with a tighter defence with Croasdale in front of it. Moore’s overall League 1 record with Vale suggests he should heed that advice, echoed by many worried supporters.
Hopefully the players have been able to be truthful to DM, and explained he’s picking the wrong starting eleven, he’s also playing players out of position to play a system that doesn’t suit them, especially without certain players, and keep a settled team. Will DM listen, i very much doubt it.
This bloke is the example of delusional.
The very fact of his game plans are failures foisted on the players who must themselves have to follow knowing how wrong they are must be frustrating for them. He’s lost the public and that’s the one that only matters. Take not Shanahan this is your making.
He will be gone before Christmas
