Port Vale manager Darren Moore told the media that being responsible for the performances of the team is part and parcel of his role as manager.
Moore was speaking ahead of a vital home game with fellow strugglers Plymouth Argyle with the possibility of a home defeat leaving Vale bottom of the table.
Moore told the press he has asked his players to treat this like any other game. He commented: “I try to treat it like every game because every game is a massive game. What we have to do as a group is make sure we play the game not the occasion. Don’t get caught up in the atmosphere. It’s all about getting the right performance. We definitely predict it will be a tight game. ”
Moore thinks the side need to take their chances and make less mistakes at the back adding: “This season we spoke about Port Vale being competitive in League One. Have we been competitive at League One, yes? Have we had moments in the game, yes, but we’ve not been good enough in taking them, scoring goals and being more resilient defensively. We have to turn those moments into points on the board.”
He thinks that will come and that complacency led to Vale’s poor run. Moore commented: “We feel that with the work we’ve been doing that we felt it is our fault that opened the door with the performances. As far back as Wigan we got a bit complacent. Myself and the players. Because of that complacency it has led to this run of games that has led to this point. We’ve been fighting our way back to a level of performance that has given us a chance. If you’re not quite at it then these are the type of results you get. We’re fighting, we’re scrapping, we’re working hard on the training ground. When those moments present themselves on the football pitch, we need to be more ruthless at both ends of the pitch.”
Ultimately the manager is responsible as Moore admitted: “We always accept responsibility. From the minute I walked in, I accept responsibility. It will never change. If you walk into this job and don’t accept responsibility then it’s not the industry for you. I accept the full responsibility of the team and everything going forward.”
The manager also asked the Vale fans for their support concluding: “We’ve all got a choice we can either get behind the team or not get behind the team. When Vale Park’s loud it is a special place to play in. We need the support. That’s the rallying call.”

Port Vale need something to be loud about, the sound to me is you covering your own back. Our gang have heard enough and seen enough of you, Goodbye Mr Moore, you have used all the excuses a poor manager can think of.
Not much else he can say in the circumstances. He’s under pressure, and the complacency he mentioned has landed the club in this predicament. An unbeaten run of 4-5 league games won’t necessarily guarantee lifting them out of the drop zone. Thirty games remaining, and a long battle ahead to secure respectability and safety. Chopping and changing the team and tactics won’t cut it.
Mr moore, when you beat plymouth tomoz,,,PLEASE PLEASE,keep the winning side,NUF SED
Complacency the players? What’s the point of playing well when you know you will not be on the pitch the next game (ojo, Walters, crosdale, George hall, Paton). every supporter knows the problem,,chop and changing is doing everyone no favours
Moore bull from Mr Moore! TAXI
The worst thing port vale did was changing supporters ends there’s no atmosphere in the ground anymore as for Darren Moore his record says it all at an higher level
You have to take your chances when they come and not make mistakes when you are defending, this is why he is a top manager.
Quite obvious that the teams main focus is not to concede is foremost. It’s a simple game that goals win matches so the main plan should be to score goals.Darren is not the man for the job
We need a manager who is prepared to be more adventurous , The supporters are totally dissatisfied it’s driving them away . A new manager is needed before the crowds disappear
Mr. Moore, when you are the manager, and you have reached the bottom of the league, there really isn’t anywhere to go, add to that your immortal statement that you take full responsibility, then there is really only one course of action to take.
I have lots of respect and love for Carol our owner. Be a man, and save her the indignity of having to sack you. Please do the decent thing, and fall on your sword.
I have been a supporter since 1948, so, I have seen many similar occasions. Afrer 77 years, I would like us to make some real progress. We have a great owner, a great ground, we just need a really good manager. I keep hoping that it will happen during my lifetime.
