Port Vale manager Darren Moore praised striker Ruari Paton after he marked his return from injury with a goal and an assist in the club’s 4-1 Football League Trophy win over Leeds Utd U21.
The Irish striker has had a mixed start to his Vale spell. He moved to Dundee United in the New Year to gain regular first-team football but battled back on his return to try and force a starting spot in the Valiants eleven. However, the striker unluckily picked up an injury at the start of the season which ruled him out for several weeks.
Paton marked his first start of the campaign with an impressive all-round performance on Tuesday evening, scoring the first goal and setting up Jack Shorrock for the second goal.
I thought his all-round performance was really, really good. I thought his link-up play, his workrate are a credit to him as an individual. He’ll feel pleased with his work…
Speaking to the club’s PVTV service after the match Moore said he was: “Pleased for Ruari tonight. He came back and had a tremendous pre-season, really, really good and then just as we start the season he picked up a groin injury. He’s back now and he’s worked really hard. Credit to his fitness tonight, I thought he looked really, really sharp.
“He took his goal really well to get us back into the game but I thought his all-round performance was really, really good. I thought his link-up play, his workrate are a credit to him as an individual. He’ll feel pleased with his work.”
Paton could now be in contention for Saturday’s League game against Leyton Orient.

Whatever the results, you have to credit DM for his unfailingly positive comments. If you are Ruari Paton, you would want to run through a wall now for that man
