Manager Darren Moore has said that while he was happy with the squad’s fitness levels during the friendly win over Bath City, there is bad news on the injury front for two Vale players.
The Valiants won 5-1 on Saturday with the majority of the squad playing some part in the games.
However, the Vale manager told BBC Radio Stoke that three players – Lorent Tolaj, George Byers and keeper Marko Marosi were rested for the game. Moore commented: “They’ve all trained incredibly hard. All three of them are probably just a little bit tight and jaded and on a game like this I just don’t want to miss them.”
However, while those players were rested, two others – Ben Amos and Ben Garrity – did miss out through injury. Moore added: “Amos has sustained a muscle injury, so he’s going to be out for a little bit of time. Ben Garrity just had a slight setback this week in training.”
The absence of Amos perhaps explains Vale’s apparent search to bring a new goalkeeper in to rival Marosi. Vale have rookie Arron Davies on their books but first-team football may be too early for the youngster. It means the club has tried out players on trial, presumably as experienced back-up or competition for Marosi. Brad Foster played against Kidsgrove and Newcastle Town while on Saturday, a second trialist was in place against Bath City.

Let’s hope that we don’t have players already injured in pre season. Last preseason was the same and some were out for weeks. Sorry to see Chizzy going back to South Africa as I thought the manager never gave him a fair chance.
