Scottish newspaper The Courier claims that Port Vale striker Ruari Paton is about to complete a move to St Johnstone.
A reminder on our Port Vale rumours features. These stories have been reported elsewhere on the web and are not started by OVF nor necessarily believed by us. We have published themselves because we think they are of interest but readers should remember that the vast majority of rumours never come to fruition – so treat these claims with caution!
Paton had a successful loan spell with St Johnstone during the second-half of last season. It culminated with the club winning promotion and Paton playing his part with five goals including a header which decided promotion. However, the striker is not part of Port Vale manager Jon Brady’s plans with the 25 year-old one of four players transfer listed at the end of the season.
The forward has a year left on his Port Vale contract but according to the Courier he has “negotiated his release” from his Vale contract and is now expected to become the Scottish club’s fourth signing of the summer.
Vale boss Brady has told the local media that strengthening the forward line is a key priority this summer. Should Paton depart it will only make it more important for Brady to revamp his forward line.

Ruari Paton at Port Vale
The Irish striker was signed for a reported six figure sum from Scottish club Queens Park in the summer of 2024. He failed to nail down a regular starting spot in his first season and was sent on loan to Dundee United in January.
In his second season with the club he again failed to secure regular football and was sent on loan to St Johnstone in February.
Should he leave the Valiants the popular Irishman will have a record of 46 appearances and nine goals for the club.
