National League side Gateshead have confirmed that defender Dan Jones has extended his loan spell until the end of the season.
Jones originally joined on loan until January 3rd but played in a Football Trophy game on the 4th January prompting a question from this website about his future. The extension of the loan will take him to the end of his Vale contract meaning the player won’t play for the club again.
The extension was confirmed on Gateshead’s official website. Jones has made seventeen appearances for his loan club and his Vale career stands at 71 appearances since joining in 2021.
The defender joined the Valiants after his release by Salford City but his spell in Burslem has been badly hit by injuries. He picked up a hamstring injury in his first season and an ankle injury in his second. Despite these issues, he was bafflingly offered a two year contract extension by Director of Football David Flitcroft in the summer of 2023. He totalled just fifteen appearances last season and none this campaign.
