“A few tantrums this week on the training pitch” – Funso Ojo on a “tough week” for Port Vale
Port Vale penalty king Funso Ojo says it’s been a “tough week” following the departure of Andy Crosby but the team “have to move forward.”
It’s been a tough week especially for me, I was very close to the staff. I had a few tantrums this week on the training pitch…
Ojo was the Vale hero on Saturday as he kept his calm to convert a late 98th minute penalty to earn Vale a 2-2 draw with Stevenage. He said: “I didn’t know we were that close to the end of the game to be fair. It’s just one of those. you have to step up take responsibility and score it.”
It’s been a dramatic week for the team following the departure of Crosby, his coaching staff and fan disquiet over the role of director of football David Flitcroft. Ojo commented: “It’s been a tough week especially for me, I was very close to the staff. I had a few tantrums this week on the training pitch, but it’s part of the game you have to move forward but I spoke to the Gaffer after I said this one was for you. I’m still sad that he’s gone but as I said we have to move forward.
“We as a team, we sat down and we spoke about the basics and the fundamentals we need to instill back into the team and we’re going to build on today and we’re going to wait for whoever comes in.
“We’re just going to grind the games out and keep this club up.”

Great attitude from Funso…we need him & the senior pros like Smithy to step up, look after the kids & grind out the results. We need around 19 points from 17 games….5 or 6 wins should do it. Some key games coming up this month Cheltenham Reading Fleetwood. Next month we should start to see some of the walking wounded return to the team & who knows when we appoint the new Gaffer let’s hope he’s got a few contacts with some out of contract Strikers. I still believe we will be playing in League 1next season. UTV

A good point in the end for us, looking forward I hope the new manager comes in quick we need to start getting the defence sorted out, I feel we need to be a back four with proper defenders this wing back system does not work with the players we have, thought lopata played well also I thought when Dan jones came on he moved the ball around alot quicker, we all know we need a better striker so hopefully we get a out a contract in who of course scores.
