Jenson Weir player profile
Young Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Jenson Weir joined the Valiants on loan during the January 2024 transfer window. The Vale were keen for a goalscoring midfielder after an injury to leading scorer Ben Garrity had ruled him out for a spell.
Weir, the son of former Scotland International David, already had experience of League One after loan spells with Blackpool and Morecambe. He had netted ten times for the latter.
Speaking of the move, Port Vale manager Andy Crosby commented: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Jensen to the club. He is a player of real quality that we have kept tabs on for quite a while now, especially following his time at Morecambe last season. He has a fantastic drive to improve himself every day both on and off the pitch and possesses each of the personal qualities required to be a member of our squad here at Port Vale.”
Weir’s first appearance was the abandoned fixture at Reading and he made his full debut in a home game against Portsmouth. He scored his only goal for the club in a 2-2 draw against Fleetwood in February. However, he was used less frequently as the season drew to a close and returned to his parent club at the end of the campaign.
