Jenson Weir: Port Vale is a good platform for any young player
Port Vale loan signing Jenson Weir says that Port Vale is a “good platform” for young players to come on loan and his decision was influenced by the success of former loanees Alfie Devine and Ollie Arblaster.
They play good football and obviously they’ve had Alfie and Ollie Arblaster and they’ve done well for themselves. I think for any young player that wants to come and play, I think Port Vale is a good platform…
The Valiants have made strenuous efforts to make the club into an attractive destination for loan talent. It resulted in successful loan spells for Devine and Arblaster, who heaped praise on the club and Vale have been able to replace the pair with a trip of Premier League loan signings, including Brighton midfielder Weir.
The youngster told the Port Vale media team that his decision to move to Vale was influenced by the fact that: “They play good football and obviously they’ve had Alfie and Ollie Arblaster and they’ve done well for themselves. I think for any young player that wants to come and play, I think Port Vale is a good platform.”
Weir started the game against Reading but his “debut” only lasted sixteen minutes with the midfielder saying: “I would have liked to have finished the game.”
However, Weir has settled in well adding: “It’s been good so far. All the lads have helped me settle in really well. The staff as well.”
The midfielder also spoke to Vale goalkeeper Connor Ripley before moving revealing: “He spoke really well about the club. It was all positive.”
Weir says he is “an energetic player. I like to get up and down the pitch. I’ll try my best to get in the final third and hopefully contribute.”
