“I hope so” – Port Vale manager eyeing more January additions
Port Vale manager Andy Crosby says the club are talking to potential new players but warned that any moves undertaken during the January transfer window can take time.
The Valiants have already been able to bring in one player with Brighton midfielder Jenson Weir joining on loan. Crosby is very happy with the signing telling the local media he was: “Somebody we’ve been interested in for a while. He obviously had a really good loan at Morecambe. It’s someone we wanted to bring in, in the summer. We’ve lost a number of midfield players for a variety of reasons. We’ve looked at the qualities he can bring and we’re delighted that we’ve managed to recruit him.”
Crosby thinks the club’s work in developing loanees Alfie Devine and Ollie Arblaster will stand them in good stead to bring in other players adding: “He (Weir) had other options but I’d like to think on the back of the first-haf of the season with the players we’ve had in on loan, how we’ve looked after those players off the pitch and the gametime we’ve given them that he’s looked at that and thought, ‘Yeah, I want to part of that.’
“I think they (Premier League and Championship clubs) are now looking at us and thinking that’s a good place to try and develop our players.”
Vale will continue to look for further additions. However. it’s often not a quick process with Crosby explaining: “I hope so. We’re looking as we always are. We’ve been looking since the summer window. Players who can improve us. Competition is vital. We’re always looking and we’ll continue to look.
“We’ve been looking and talking to people. There’s areas where we need to get better. If there’s someone available whether that’s a loan or permanent, we’ll look to try and do it. It takes a lot of things to transfer someone in. A lot of things have to fall into place.”
