Double cup award for Port Vale loanee
Port Vale’s on loan midfielder Alfie Devine has scooped two awards for his efforts during Port Vale’s fourth round Carabao Cup win over Mansfield Town.
Devine’s strike proved to be the difference as the Valiants beat the Stags to progress to the quarter-final stages of the competition for the first time in the club’s history.
The official Carabao Cup X account has now announced that Devine has been named as player of the round and also awarded the goal of the round award.
Devine, on loan from Spurs, has netted three goals in sixteen appearances for the Vale so far this season.
Talking to the media after the Mansfield game, Devine said: “The gap sort of opened up for me and I just thought ‘why not?’
“Everyone knows the run we’ve been on and, in some games, we’ve been unlucky and very hard done by, especially the Stevenage game.
“But we were absolutely brilliant. And the Vale fans were superb from the first minute. Even in the warm-up. They gave us our 12th man – and we showed what we can do.”
