Did Port Vale snatch Jason Lowe from Carlisle Utd at the last minute?
Internet rumours suggest that Port Vale’s eighth summer signing, Jason Lowe, was on the verge of signing for Carlisle United before changing his mind and joining the Valiants instead.
The experienced Lowe was announced by the Vale on Monday afternoon but posts on social media purport to show Lowe in a Carlisle United shirt shortly before the move. If that is the case, Lowe could be the unnamed player that Carlisle manager Paul Simpson says the club missed out on.
In an interview with the local media, Simpson revealed that the club missed out on a signing on Monday. He commented: “We felt as though we had a really good signing coming in today. He’d been in at 8:15am, had his medical, got his kit on, got his squad number – and then he comes and knocks on my door and said he’s had a phone call from his agent and he’s got a better offer from a club closer to home, so he was going to take it… it does make a difference when you get an offer which is a lot closer to home and you don’t have to make the journey up here.”
Lowe was born in Wigan and spent the last three years playing for Salford City.
Port Vale manager Andy Crosby commented on the addition of Lowe saying: “We are delighted to have signed Jason Lowe. Jason brings a wealth of experience and versatility to our team, and we are absolutely thrilled to have him join us.”
