Morecambe 1-0 Port Vale reaction – “a really frustrating night”
Reaction to Tuesday night’s defeat from manager Darrell Clarke, Tom Pett and Morecambe boss Derek Adams.
Darrell Clarke
I am astonished we found a way to lose that game if I am honest with you. I hoped Saturday would be a platform to build from with the positive result.
We weren’t clinical enough in the final third and we don’t save a shot that we should save, so it’s a frustrating night.
Ben Garrity has a chance, the keeper makes a save and we let a soft goal in at the other end, with what was really their only shot on target.
It was a really frustrating night because we were hoping to build some momentum from Saturday and we haven’t been able to do that.
Stoney is an honest lad, I think he will look back and think he should do better with it. It is not just on Stoney, we have to do better in the final third, we have had so much possession and territory in that game and we haven’t produced the goods at the top end of the pitch so we have to look at ourselves.
The performance is a good performance apart from putting the ball in the back of the net and that is what we have to do in the final third when you have as much territory and ball as we did. You have to hurt teams and we had ample opportunities to be able to do that and we didn’t take them.
Tom Pett
(We) dominated the game, but at the end of the day, it’s about putting the ball in the back of the net, they’ve done it from the only shot they’ve had on target, and we haven’t done that.
Very disappointed, there’s a lot of positives, but it’s about putting the ball at the back of the net, and we didn’t do that.
I had a volley on the edge of the box, which I backed myself to beat the keeper from it, hit the bar.
We’re all going to have chances, we’ve got to look at ways to score goals, and it’s not just the frontmen, it’s all around, so we all have a hand in that.
Derek Adams
It was a really tough night both teams were going at it early in the game. Both teams created chances and we were eventually able to get the breakthrough through Adam Mayor. I was delighted for the players tonight.
It was tough because they threw everyone on at the end. I thought that the players stood up to it. It was a really good performance from us.
