Rochdale 2-3 Port Vale – Ojo stunner earns Valiants a friendly win
Rochdale 2-3 Port Vale: two goals from forward Jamie Proctor and a stunning winner from summer signing Funso Ojo earned Port Vale a friendly win over League Two side Rochdale.
Captain Tom Conlon also returned to action as a late substitute but worryingly forward James Wilson was missing altogether. There were also two trialists named on the bench for the Valiants.
Former Port Vale striker Devante Rodney provided the assist for Rochdale’s opener on eleven minutes, scored by James Ball. Veteran forward Ian Henderson made it 2-0 to the home side on the quarter hour mark.
However, minutes later, youngster Tommy McDermott was brought down in the box and Jamie Proctor made it 2-1. It remained that score-line at the break.
Proctor levelled things on 53 minutes with a towering header before Ojo put the Valiants in front on 57 minutes with what proved to be the game’s decisive strike. Vale nearly added a fourth but Benning’s free-kick was well saved.
