Former Valiants: John Askey adds former Port Vale duo to his York squad
Former Port Vale manager John Askey has signed two former Port Vale players as his York City squad prepare for life in the National League.
York won promotion last season and have now added former Vale duo Adam Crookes and Scott Burgess to their ranks. Both players played for Askey while Vale boss.
The pair both moved to National League side Grimsby last season before being released at the end of the campaign.
Crookes made a total of 77 appearances for the Valiants after initially being signed on loan from Nottingham Forest in 2019. Midfielder Burgess made 63 appearances during his three year spell with the club.
Askey was manager of Port Vale from 2019 until he left the club on January 4th 2021 after a poor run of form. He joined York in November 2021 and guided them to promotion via the play-offs.
York have also signed Port Vale winger Alex Hurst earlier this summer.
