Alex Hurst leaves Port Vale to join York City
Port Vale winger Alex Hurst has reunited with former manager John Askey after leaving Port Vale for an undisclosed fee.
The youngster has left the Valiants to join National League newcomers York City, managed by Askey.
Askey signed Hurst in 2019 after impressing Askey while on trial. The wideman then agreed a new two-year deal with Askey’s replacement Darrell Clarke in the summer of 2021. However, Hurst has struggled to make a breakthrough to the first team, making just two first-team appearances last season.
In total, the winger made 29 appearances for the Valiants, scoring two goals.
Speaking about the midfielder’s departure, Port Vale Director of Football, David Flitcroft said: “We would like to wish Alex all the best with his move to York City and would like to thank him for the time he has spent at Vale Park. Alex has faced tough competition for game time here at Port Vale but has remained professional throughout and has played a key role as a member of our extended squad.
“The move to York will see him get the minutes on the pitch that he requires and it also gives him the chance to work with a manager he has a previous relationship with. Alex had one more year on his contract but the offer that York came in with was good value and will also see the club benefit from any potential future sales.”
