Respond in the right manner – Andy Crosby’s message to team after Walsall loss
Port Vale interim manager Andy Crosby says that, after the loss to Walsall, the players need to “think about it and respond in the right manner.”
Vale’s hopes of automatic promotion took a big blow as they lost 2-0 to Walsall to record their second successive loss and Crosby told the media: “We have overcome many hurdles this season and this is one where we have lost a couple of games on the spin. So we have to think about it and respond in the right manner.
“As we expected, it was frenetic, it was competitive in the first half with a lot at stake – pride for them and a bigger picture for us. I thought it took a long time for the game to settle down.
“I thought we controlled the final stages of the first half and we managed to play the game how we wanted to do it without producing the quality in the final third and taking advantage of the set plays we got.
“I spoke at half-time about continuing to do that but I think we have lost the game (because) we didn’t produce enough in the final third and we haven’t defended our box well enough today.”
