Not good enough, shocking – Darrell Clarke slams Port Vale defence after loss to Rochdale
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke was upset with “shocking” defending during Port Vale’s dramatic 3-2 home loss to Rochdale.
The Valiants lost 3-2 despite taking an early lead through Jamie Proctor and Clarke was clear who he felt was to blame.
It was the polar opposite to last week. Defensively we were shocking…
He told the media: “It was the polar opposite to last week. Defensively we were shocking. In the first 20 minutes I think we should be two or three nil up and the game should be near enough out of sight. We didn’t take those chances, we only got the one goal, then they scored and then they are in the ascendancy.
“It wasn’t comfortable and so I made the change at half-time. We gave another sloppy goal away, we didn’t deal with their nine, who we hadn’t dealt with all day.
“Then we got back in it at 2-2, and tried to go and win it again, but then we gave another really shocking goal away. So, it was the polar opposite to last week.
“It’s not alright to concede three goals at home. If you score two goals you should win a football game.
“We gave a cheap goals away, then got a good goal, but then the third goal just epitomised what we have been about today. We don’t track our runner, he has a free run into the box and a free finish. Not good enough.”
