Port Vale fans on draw with Carlisle Utd – strikers are not the problem, it’s the formation
Here’s a selection of comments from our forum on the home draw with Carlisle United with fans saying that Vale’s formation is “killing” the side and isn’t making chances.
More on Port Vale 0-0 Carlisle United:
Way too early for panic but Clarke needs to find the formation to make the most of our front men which we are not doing…

Toothless. Will we score before Christmas? Not on this showing – and not surprising when we’re creating nothing from midfield and our most creative player spends half his time in his own defensive third. This system is killing us. It’s more 5-3-2 and we have no width, no attacking full back play and nothing from midfield…

We miss Conlon in that midfield. Garrity seems more suited to a holding role. At least we look solid, which is a good base to build on. I think our season will gather pace, keep the faith…
Boslem’s Brazil
I’m not going to criticise the strikers as I don’t necessarily think they’re the problem, it’s the formation. The midfield three can’t seem to keep the ball and none of them are exactly creative. Add to that, the wing backs just aren’t working….

I certainly expect us to have a good season but at the mo we are definitely disjointed and DC has to sort it out. We are solid, which is a good base to start with, but the midfield has to link with the forwards and we have to start making chances…it all looks a bit hit and hope at the moment…
Clntonboulton
Too much expected from Worrall running from right back to right wing. We’re too defensive and then when we get the ball out hold it up and then pass it back to defence. Too many high balls. For me we’re playing similar to how we played three seasons ago. Still plenty of games left…

The formation isn’t right for us. Formation has to change. It’s OK when your on the back foot expected to lose however we’re not this season. Change it to 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 and play players where they are meant to play. I was positive after both the first two League games but tonight I didn’t enjoy, football was poor, no creativity and the midfield was really poor. I don’t think we can play Walker and Garrity in the same 11. We’ve got to use some kind of pace otherwise I don’t see a threat from us? It’s not the end of the world, I can’t see us losing many games and that is progress, we certainly look a decent solid side but we need that creativity desperately…

Need Conlon back. Need Gibbons back. Five at the back needs chopping. Worrall at RWB idea scrapped. Worrall + Amoo/Politic banging in crosses for Proctor and Wilson….
Doha
Zero creativity just aimless balls upfront most the match. Very hard watch. The team looked very pedestrian playing 3-5-2 which was more like 5-3-2 most of the game. Why are we playing not to lose at home? Very frustrated by the lack of cohesion. We have most of the ingredients but not making the most of it…

A new striker isn’t, as I’ve said before, magically going to get us scoring. All three strikers we have will score if presented with better chances than we’re creating currently…
philmpv
A bit too early to panic but we certainly look a little disjointed. Our build up play is way too slow and quite often ended up with a hoof from the back after playing it sideways and backwards….

What is wrong with this manager why cannot he see 4/3/3 is a good formation, said it last season Clarke is clueless, eventually the penny may drop. It did last season until he started tinkering again at the end.
