Former Port Vale manager takes on new role at former club
Former Port Vale manager John Askey has linked up with his former club Macclesfield Town.
Askey has joined Town in a short-term mentoring role. The former Port Vale youth teamer spent his entire playing career with Macclesfield and had two spells as manager guiding Macc to the National League title in 2018.
Askey joined Port Vale in 2019 succeeding Neil Aspin. He managed the side for 91 games with a win ratio of 37%. He left the club on 4 January 2021.
Following their recent well-documented financial problems, Macclesfield are now in the North West Counties League and managed by former player (and Valiant) Danny Whitaker.
A tweet from Macclesfield confirmed the news:
Macclesfield FC are delighted to announce that John Askey has agreed to join the Club in a short-term mentoring role.
