Precaution – Darrell Clarke plays down duo’s absence
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke says there’s no need to be concerned about the absence of captain Tom Conlon and midfielder Jake Taylor on Tuesday.
The duo missed Port Vale’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Fleetwood Town but the Vale boss says their absence was merely a precaution.
TC is a precaution and Jake has picked up a little niggle but we are hoping it is nothing too serious down the line…
Speaking to the media after the game Clarke said: “TC is a precaution and Jake has picked up a little niggle but we are hoping it is nothing too serious down the line. Tom will certainly be back in training with us on Thursday morning.”
Clarke was reasonably happy with Vale’s performance on Tuesday adding: “There were a lot of pleasing aspects of the game against Fleetwood, a very good possession based team. I was disappointed to concede from a set piece but it is still very early days into the pre season so it is a work in progress.”
A number of younger players also featured for the Valiants with the manager adding: “It is important we do that but they have to be good enough. They have had a bit more of a taste of it in the three games we have had against non-league teams then today at Fleetwood.”
