Whitfield had a spell at Yeovil Town before two spells at Vale Park, initially on loan before Valiants manager Neil Aspin sealed a permanent move. He played 72 times for Vale, scoring 8 times between 2018 and 2020. however, he fell out of favour under new manager John Askey and his contract with Port Vale was terminated by mutual consent on 3 September.
He subsequently joined National League side Torquay United where he has found the net 16 times and provided eight assists in 84 games.

I think that Ben Whitfield should have been retained by Vale the season before last. For some unknown reason Askey didn’t like him and found the opportunity to get rid of him. Who could possibly forget the goal he scored against Chesterfield which effectively kept us up ? Still I suppose players come and players go but there are some who leave good memories behind.
As far as I know he was voted Torquay player of the year in his first season with them, and was in the running for the same award last season until he received a fairly severe injury towards the end of the season.

Thought he was a cracking player, whilst on loan, however, not as impressive when he signed. Not set the word on fire since, decent when up for it
