Danny Pugh out of running for permanent Port Vale manager role
Port Vale chair Carol Shanahan has confirmed that interim manager Danny Pugh has not applied for the permanent manager’s role at the club.
Pugh has been in charge since John Askey left the club on January 4th. However, Pugh himself has been self-isolating in recent days so coach Frank Sinclair has been on the touchline in recent games.
Shanahan confirmed to the Sentinel newspaper that the club has a short-list of managerial contenders as they look to recruit a new man before the end of the season.
However, speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Shanahan confirmed that Pugh was not on the short-list. She told the radio station: “He’s ambitious but also sensible – he doesn’t want to take two steps forward until it’s right.
“I don’t think it would’ve been an utter disaster if he had been (appointed permanent manager), but equally I think he does need that time to grow and I think it would’ve been really undue pressure on him and the club at a time where there’s a lot going on anyway.”
However, Pugh still has a role to play at the club with Shanahan adding: “He will do the job that he’s doing for as long as we need him to do it and he’s been very clear and committed about doing that.”
