Port Vale 2020 Highlights
That goal against Manchester City in January
How could we possibly miss this one out? A superb passage of play by the Valiants, a great cross by David Amoo and a cool header from the old warrior. Thousands of visiting fans erupt. For seven minutes, Vale had scored and drawn level with their big-spending opponents. It may have ended in a 4-1 defeat but that goal will live long in the memory… Want to watch it again? With what appears to be Russian commentary? Oh, go on then…
The superb second-half of the 2019-20 season
Who knows what would have happened if the season had run its full course? In 2020, Vale played thirteen times, won six, drew five and lost just two. It was a run that briefly took them into the play-off picture only for them to miss out when Covid brought the season to an early end.
The Lorne Street stand finally becomes all-seated
It took decades and there’s still some work to be done on the concourse but the welcome completion of the seating for the Lorne Street stand means that the Vale Park stadium looks as impressive as it has ever looked.
Port Vale 2020 Lowlights
Vale Park without fans
Empty seats, stuttering streams and dwindling revenue have all contributed to an air of gloom around the club since the Coronavirus outbreak. It’s not the same watching the Valiants from home and we all look forward to the days when we can watch from the sidelines again.
A failure to build on last season
It could be the pervading gloom of the empty ground but Vale’s form during the 2020-21 season has also fallen away. Fans were expecting a promotion push this season but instead a string of poor defeats has seen the club drop worryingly towards the drop zone. Here’s hoping for a better second-half of the season in 2021.
