Tom Pett player profile
Port Vale FC signed former Stevenage midfielder Tom Pett on a two year deal in June 2021.
An official club statement welcomed the signing saying:
Port Vale Football Club is delighted to confirm an agreement has been reached with central midfielder Tom Pett.
Pett will officially join the Valiants following conclusion of his current Stevenage contract, on July 1.
The midfielder has made more than 170 EFL appearances for the Boro over two separate spells, as well as an additional 55 league appearances for Lincoln City, notching a career total of 55 goals to date.
Hailing from the Hertfordshire town of Potters Bar, Pett has built his reputation in the league as a technically-gifted footballer capable of playing in a deeper role while he can also be utilised as a more advanced outlet in the centre of midfield.
Pett began his career at Boreham Wood in the club’s youth system, before joining the academy of hometown club Potters Bar. He broke into the first team during the 2009/10 season, captaining the club and proving a standout performer over the following two seasons.
A move to Wealdstone followed, with Pett scoring 18 times in his final season at the club as they were crowned Isthmian Premier Division winners.
Pett was then spotted by Stevenage and signed for an undisclosed fee ahead of the 2014/15 season, scoring 8 goals in his first full season in professional football.
The midfielder’s impressive form at the Boro caught the attention of Lincoln’s scouts during the 2018 January transfer window, as the Imps’ “significant five-figure” offer was accepted with Pett’s contract due to expire at the end of the season.
During his first full season with the Imps, Pett made 51 appearances and scored four goals as Lincoln were crowned Sky Bet League Two champions.
A return to Stevenage followed during the 2020/21 season, with his performances contributing to a 14th placed finish as the Boro vastly improved on their previous curtailed campaign, finishing level on points with the Valiants.
Speaking on conclusion of the agreement, Manager Darrell Clarke said: “Tom becomes our third central midfield addition of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Brad and Ben .
“He has a lot of experience at League Two level and has proved he is capable of contributing to a winning team in this division during his time at Lincoln. He is a dependable presence in the middle capable of playing a few different roles if required and has shown he has an eye for goal. We are looking forward to working with and welcoming Tom for pre-season.”
