TWO debutants and ELEVEN changes for Vale’s Football League Trophy clash with Newcastle Utd
None of the players who started Vale’s 1-0 FA Cup win over Milton Keynes were named in the starting line-up for the Football League Trophy clash with Newcastle B.
Port Vale manager John Askey made wholesale changes with goalkeeper Jonny Maddison and midfielder Dan Tricket-Smith both making their competitive full debuts for the club. Maddison joined the club in the summer while Trickett-Smith was signed in the January transfer window.
Regulars Scott Brown, James Gibbons and Jake Taylor are on a strong Valiants bench.
Players out on loan are allowed to play in the competition so Trickett-Smith can play despite being on loan with Curzon Ashton. He is joined by fellow loanees defender Ryan Campbell-Gordon (Ilkeston) and midfielder Alex Hurst (Bradford PA) who are both on the bench.
Forward Jordan Archer starts upfront while there is also the welcome return of midfielder Tom Conlon after injury.

I think you have to keep seven (I may be wrong on that figure) players from the last match squad in this one. That includes subs. From the MK game… Vale have Brown, Gibbons, Smith, Taylor and Burgess on the bench plus Cullen, Browne, Brisley and Archer (all subs against MK) starting. So, they’ve got nine players who were in the last squad which I think means they are within the rules.
