This is another of our occasional round-ups concerning former Port Vale players. With numerous clubs announcing retained lists, here’s what’s happened to some former Valiants…
Gibbons leaves Bristol Rovers
James Gibbons is one of seven players to leave Bristol Rovers. The defender began his career with the Valiants, progressing through the youth ranks but left the club after the promotion to League One in 2022. Gibbons spent the second-half of this season on loan at Cambridge United.
Former Vale keeper released by Carlisle
Tomas Holy, who spent a loan spell with the Valiants during the 2021-22 season, has been released by Carlisle United. The 32 year-old is one of eight players to be released.
Benning earns new deal from Shrewsbury
Defender Mal Benning, who left Port Vale to join Shrewsbury Town earlier this season, has been offered a new deal by the club. Benning, now aged 30, made 42 appearances this season.
Grimsby release Amos
Defender Danny Amos, who made a handful of Port Vale appearances, has been released by League Two Grimsby Town. Amos made three appearances for the Valiants during the 2021-22 season.
Stone and Rawlinson transfer-listed by Notts County
Aidan Stone, Port Vale’s goalkeeper during their dramatic 2020 play-off campaign, is one of three players to be transfer-listed by Notts County. Stone moved to County at the start of the season but lost his place midway through the campaign. Stone is joined on the list by former Valiants centre-half Connell Rawlinson.
