Port Vale finally ended their long wait for an away league win after a 2-1 victory over Bradford City on Tuesday evening. Here is how fans on the onevalefan.co.uk forum reacted to the victory.
Have your say now on the dedicated match forum threadThat was a very good performance and showed two different sides to us in each half. First-half we really took the game to them and second half we dug in and were resilient to withstand their pressure. The defence were excellent, both full backs tried to link when they could and I think both of them won their individual battles. One thing of note which has caught us out recently is defending the back post and they both did it very well last night, winning important headers. Credit to Monty too, he was getting bombarded in the first-half and it’s clear that’s what Bradford had worked on, but he stood up to it well.

The first-half was arguably the best we’ve played all season. It was a diabolical decision for the penalty then in the second-half we had a lot of defending to do. There were mental scenes in the away end when Atkinson scored, then the ref played ten mins extra time when five mins was held up on the board almost like he was playing until they scored again

I’m proud to support Vale every day I wake up but tonight after the last few below par performances I’m super proud. Every single player who wore that shirt today played for the badge and the fans! Every single player put in a real shift tonight and they deserve huge credit for finally getting that burden of the no away win off their back. We do need to do something about these officials though, how that was a penalty in first half amazes me. UTV bring on Oldham.

I bet you if you listened carefully you could hear a collective click when Atkinson scored as a bunch of OVF regulars closed their laptops!
“Not tonight… my time will come again… but not tonight!”
And then silence and darkness… as they wait for another result to go against us and they can awaken again!

That was brilliant! The best thing about it all was that we made all the efforts of an incompetent referee totally irrelevant. Joyce, excellent. Smith and Legge, immense. Loved everything about the evening apart from being charged £2.30 for a cup of tea that tasted like dirty dishwater!

It was great to see a return to a higher energy set up. The last few weeks have, it seems, seen the manager trying different permutations, without too much success. We’re obviously a work in progress, but I do hope for a continuation of the high energy, high press formula.
