Port Vale have announced the signing of former loanee Adam Crookes on a permanent basis.
Crookes was signed on loan in January 2019 and was a first-team regular for the second part of the season, making nineteen appearances.
Vale expressed an interest in signing the left-sided defender on a permanent basis and following his release from parent club Nottingham Forest, Crookes has opted for a move to Vale Park.
Club statement – Port Vale sign Adam Crookes
Port Vale are pleased to announce that defender Adam Crookes has agreed to sign for the Vale on a two-year deal.
Joining from July 1st when his contract officially expires at Nottingham Forest, Crookes’ signing will come as no surprise after his successful loan spell at the Vale after arriving in January.
The 21-year-old made his football league and club debut in a 1-0 win over Crawley Town, just days after joining the Vale on loan and then went onto make a further 18 appearances.
Despite signing on loan under former manager Neil Aspin in January, Crookes’ performances and attitude impressed John Askey when he arrived as the new manager and continued to do so for the rest of the season.
With Crookes’ commitment to the club confirmed now for two years, manager John Askey is pleased to have been able to add the defender to the squad after other teams began to circle.
“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to add Adam to the squad. Ever since I’ve arrived, his performances on the pitch and the way he conducts himself have caught my eye.
“He’s young but he’s gained plenty of experience from his short loan spell here. It was a difficult period for the club when he joined, but he still managed to put in the performances.
“He had other clubs after him but I’m pleased to see him choose the Vale and join us for what is exciting times for this club. It shows we’re heading in the right direction when we’re able to secure players of this quality despite temptations made by other teams.”
