Manny Oyeleke and Tom Conlon are expected to take part in a practice match and could both be in contention for Port Vale’s game against Forest Green Rovers.
Vale have been hit by midfield problems and with Michael Tonge, Antony Kay and Danny Pugh all veterans, manager Neil Aspin moved to bring in Blackburn youngster Lewis Hardcastle on loan to give more energy to the midfield.
Summer signing Luke Joyce has been the only constant in the engineroom this season.
The availability of Oyeleke and Conlon could add yet more dynamism to the midfield providing both players come through the practice game.
Manager Neil Aspin told the Sentinel newspaper: “We want everybody who is in the squad fit so I have more options to pick from. But, if I do bring anybody back into the team, I have to be confident they can last the 90 minutes. So, I need to monitor the fitness of both of them in training this week and then make a decision for Saturday.
“We will be having a practice game, normally they are at a good tempo because you have lots of people who are trying to get in the team.”
